Respect the Ambition: Shai Dominique & Shai Girls,LLC

Meeting Shai Dominique was such a delight! Her vision of full figure potential is inspiring to TheFIGURE beyond measures! I truly could not wait to introduce her ambition to TheFIGURE. Shai Dominique chats with me about her life and how Shai Girls, LLC all began. Brooklyn born and Miramar (located in Fort Lauderdale,FL) raised plus size model. From the age of 7, Shai graced others with her flashing smile and walk to die for. Growing up, Shai realized that she wanted to become a model but felt too discouraged to persue those dreams. At the age of 20, Shai started to realize that her beauty was more than what she expected. Constantly hearing others say, "Your so pretty for a big girl", she decided to go take things up a notch. Shai started to model. Showcasing herself in plus size fashion shows and taking photos that captured the eyes of many. In January 2011, Shai decided to start her own company with her husband specializing in models as well as promotions and marketing. Not discriminating against any origins or creed. Within that month, Shai Girls LLC was born with STYLE and Grace!

 How would you describe your ambition?

Shai : My ambition is like no other. I use to be discouraged when it came to my company and my weight. Hearing it wasn't worth it. That I should concentrate on something else. But I figured it was time to show and prove. Now its time to show others that I have what it takes as well as give something to the world.

What inspires your vision and goals?

Shai: Ahhh man! Hearing people tell me that I inspire them makes me feel good. It only pushes me more and more every day when a young lady approaches me asks me "How do I become a model"; I feel the pleasure and need to help them. Those that follow my work are who inspire me to reach my goals.

The Color Of Fashion Featuring Toyrei Shade

The Color Of Fashion is a new column that was started by Quis  to recognize people of color and their views, thoughts,  and personal style  with  the fashion industry and how people of color are so significant  in it.  TheFIGURE recognizes  Toyrei Shade, a  19 year old  with a  punk, vintage-esque style .

Explain what you’re wearing in the photo

- my favorite pink blazer i picked up from a thrift store.
- a simple white tank.
- dark washed skinnys my momz got me for christmas (lol)
- gray peep toe boot heels from charlotte russe i believe
& lastly - a navy sling purse.

What does style means to you?

style is a means of expression. you dress according to how you feel & it has no limits. it's one thing people can't point at & say "oh, you did it wrong."

Where/who do you get most of your inspiration from?

i see a lot of dopeness on the net. if i like it, i might adopt it or do my own spin on it. i'm not a big "name brand" person. i like what i like.

What inspired you to start blogging?

i was going through a really tough time in college & in my personal life. it was a way to vent. to let everything out that i kept bottled up.

What inspired the blog title?

pillow talk & confide lol. it's a line from wale's "the manipulation pt. 2". "pillow talk & confide, make your secrets all mine." he's one of, if not, my favorite rapper. first thing that popped in my head when i was thinking of a blog title.

What does Black Fashion and or black people in fashion mean to you?

black people in fashion are a statement all in itself. there's so many negative views on black culture. to see people being original and doing something they enjoy, it inspires me to continue to do what i love.

"I am Black, Puerto Rican and Brazilian, and proud of it! TheFIGURE congratulates Dante Briggins for being recently signed to Wilhelmina models. MEET TAYYB . This year, Dante Briggins who likes to go by the name "Tayy B" featured in the "Where the angels sleep" MUSIC VIDEO by Styles P. Along with a number of respected esperiences Mr. Briggins has also been featured in print work for T2 Designs, Highly Humble Designs, New Blak (Shot with Naima from the show 'America's Next Top Model' winner cycle 4) and H&M. Stylish and skillful, he informs us that he is no stranger to the fashion show runway! The ambition Briggins has is so vivid and encouraging. Exclusively waiting to cast on a reality tv show that he could not share too much about, but we are definitely on the edge of our seats to hear more! What's "Respect The Ambition" without knowing what inspires his desire to be more and accomplish? So when TheFIGURE questioned about his inspiration Dante Briggins sheds light  "To be 100% honest the circle of individuals I have surrounded myself with are my greatest source of inspiration. My closest friends are Janese Blagrove (Hairstylist), celebrity designer Dramatik Fanatic, Silvia Jankova(model), Naomi Defensor( current season of MTV's real world Las Vegas/ host) and my photographer Robert Klein. They keep me motivated and uplifted. We work as a unit to make sure each and everyone of is always on point like right triangles. Without them the connections I have been able to make would not have happened. We call each other our Fashion family. Other than my fashion family I am Inspired by other models, the ever changing fashion industry, and other individuals that have succeeded when people told them it was impossible." Jamaal q. Singleton is an aspiring artist based out of Chester, Pennsylvania area who has an unconditional desire to entertain. Thrilled to know that he has the skills to create, grow and proceed. Jamaal is surely to succeed. His ambition started out at a very young age, at the age of 17 Jamaal created, established and choreographed his own drill team "dramatic impacq" making him the youngest director in the organization they competed in. As he ventured in the world, Jamaal gained a second passion he encountered the desire to model.  Mr. Singleton is very ambitious and has a drive that cannot be justified. With amazing spirit and expertise he has had great amounts of opportunities to work with some amazing artists throughout his journey and is still fighting to reach his dream.
